![]() The glossy surface will probably show fingerprints easily and get scratched up during transport unless you pop the drive into a case (WD makes one that holds the drive and wart.) Seems like I read a review that tried to say NTFS took up more space than '32.Ĭons: Not ecstatic about having another wall wart but it's probably necessary. The drive runs fairly cool when reformatting to NTFS at 99% of the reformat, the vents at the top of the unit registered 93.6 degrees F.Īs to capacity, XP Disk Manager reported it as 698.63 Gigs as it came in FAT 32 and (no surprise) 698.63 Gigs reformatted as NTFS. Haven't had this one long enough to report on that issue. I use WD drives almost exclusively because of their reliability. This particular model (Essential) is not Fire wire, though, it's USB 2 only. Pros: High capacity and gig-per-dollar value, portability, good looks, and reliability, the WD My Book Essential delivers.
